Since 1973, the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust has been working to preserve the beauty and character of our community. Our dream and goals then became the basis of all that we have done, and continue to do to this day. We want to acquire undeveloped land within Kennebunkport so that it might remain in its natural state forever. These areas will thus provide retreats in an increasingly urbanized society in which wildlife can find refuge, traditional recreational sites can be maintained, and enough of our town's own natural beauty protected so that future generations will be able to enjoy it as we now do. We want to protect those places that speak to our heritage, like Goat Island Lighthouse and our Grist Mill property. We want our children to be able to learn from the landscape and our seniors to take comfort in the quiet cycles of nature. We want all to realize what a special place they're a part of, and take pride and joy in the challenge of protecting it.

The organization remains as resolute today as it was then in its desire to protect the best features of this town we all love. Through instinct and inventory, we continue to locate areas worthy of protection. Whenever we can, we buy them. With great generosity other parcels are donated. And with each success more pieces of the conservation puzzle fall into place.
We do our best to foster a spirit of land protection among our townspeople. We do our best to bring all of our citizens together in a common cause, young and old, rich and poor, native and newcomer. We want everyone to share in the excitement and benefits of preserving the best properties our town has to offer so that, even as our town grows, all of us, and all of our children, and all who will visit, we be able to experience the same access and adventures that we have known.

Despite the passage of time, our mission remains just as vital today as it was at our founding. We have achieved some wonderful victories and have learned some important lessons. We know that with a clear objective and hard work our shared visions can become realities. Out town's beauty can be protected. We can all have access to the shoreline and wooded paths. We can all experience the joy of exploring a local island or discovering the serenity of a nearby waterfall. We can all marvel at the sweep of Goat Island Light. We can all work together to make it happen. We encourage you to join us.
