Timber Point - a victory for all!

You have done it!  The Campaign for Timber Point has reached its fundraising goal. The Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, the Trust for Public Land,  and the Friends of Rachel Carson National Wildlife refuge wish to express their extraordinary gratitude to our volunteers and the over six hundred individuals, families, companies, foundations, and three neighboring land trusts who gave generously to make this goal a reality.  The nearly $2 million dollars raised will be added to the $3 million dollars secured for the project from the Land and Water Conservation Fund thanks to Maine congressional delegation, and $200,000 from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

The Timber Point Campaign will add 97 acres and a 13 acre island to the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge on the Little River Division.  Papers will be passed for acquistion of the property this December.

Not only will the abundant wildlife and its habitats be protected under the watchful eye of the RCNWR, the public will gain access to this now private sanctuary with footpaths to explore.  Countless beachgoers and homeowners around Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport and Granite Point in Biddeford will also benefit when the scenic vista they now enjoy will be forever preserved for future generations.
